First CGCIO class is officially in the books.
I went into the UNC School of Government’s Certified Government Chief Information Officer program expecting to learn. What I did not fully appreciate was how valuable the conversations outside of the material would be.
Over the first two days, we explored leadership, the evolving role of technology in government, organizational challenges, communication, and how technology leaders can better connect what we do to the missions of the organizations we serve.
But one of my biggest takeaways was the room itself.
I had the opportunity to learn alongside and network with IT leaders supporting airports, law enforcement, fire services, municipalities, universities, community colleges, and other public organizations from across North Carolina.
Different environments. Different missions. Different challenges.
Yet it did not take long to realize how many of our technology and leadership challenges overlap.
Those conversations are already making an impact. New perspectives, new professional connections, and ideas I can bring back to my own organization and put to work.
The journey begins.
